If you experienced symptoms before your test, then your isolation period of 10 days starts the day after the symptoms started, according to the release.

Regarding isolating oneself, the release states you may self-isolate in your home and that most people can recover at home without medical care. You can treat your symptoms with Tylenol for fever reduction, body aches and pains. Over-the-counter cough medication also may be used to help suppress your cough. Know More here

People living in your home and very close contacts are asked to self-quarantine for a minimum of 14 days. During that time they should check their temperature two times a day and watch for symptoms of cough, fever and shortness of breath. They may return to work if no signs of illness have been discovered after 14 days, the release states.

The Health Department asks anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 to notify all close contacts who would have been within six feet of them for a period of longer than 15 minutes in a 24 hour period. They should quarantine for 14 days starting the day after the last time they were in close contact with you.

Due to the back log in the state data base, the Health Department may not get the results of a positive test for several days after the results are complete, according to the release. Please do not call the health department to provide this information. Someone from the health department will eventually contact you in the order in which your test results were received, the release states.

If you may have been exposed to a person who tested positive for COVID-19, you are not a healthcare provider or first responder and do not have any symptoms (no fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing), you should self-quarantine for 14 days from the last date of exposure to the person who was confirmed to have tested positive, the release states. You may self-quarantine in your own home and follow all guidelines for those who have tested positive while isolating.

If you become ill during the 14 days of self-quarantine, you should continue to isolate yourself at home, the release states. You may discontinue self-isolation when you no longer have a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications for 24 hours, your symptoms (cough, shortness of breath) are improving and at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.

“We sincerely ask for your partnership in these efforts and appreciate your cooperation,” the release states. “These measures are necessary to help us slow the spread of COVID-19. By all working together we can help more citizens remain COVID-19 free and maintain the integrity of our work force and the businesses we rely upon.”

in a final note to employers, the Health Department said they may not be able to supply documentation such as quarantine letters, stay-at-home letters or return-to-work slips in a timely fashion.

“We ask for your patience in this,” the release reads. “These are unprecedented times which call for modifications in policies and practices on everyone’s part.”
